About ThumbGrab
ThumbGrab is a lightweight browser-based utility for viewing and saving thumbnail images that are publicly available for YouTube videos.
What the tool is for
Video thumbnails are used to preview a video before someone watches it. A creator may want to review their own thumbnail on another screen, a designer may compare visual layouts, or a student may need an image reference for a presentation. ThumbGrab provides a simple way to check the thumbnail variants exposed by YouTube’s image service.
How it works
- Paste a supported public YouTube URL into the homepage tool.
- ThumbGrab extracts the video ID from the URL.
- The page checks common thumbnail image variants and shows the versions that load.
- Select a download option for the version you want to save.
What ThumbGrab does not do
- It does not download YouTube videos or audio.
- It does not bypass private-video access controls.
- It does not guarantee that every resolution exists for every video.
- It does not manufacture a genuine high-resolution original by upscaling a smaller image.
Independent service and responsible use
ThumbGrab is an independent utility, not an official YouTube product, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube. YouTube names and related marks belong to their respective owners. Users are responsible for respecting copyright, permissions and applicable terms when reusing downloaded images.
